  There are times when the straight image, beautiful as it may be, simply does not, in my opinion, cut right to the core essence of a subject, at least as I perceive it.  And since, to me, art is about the presentation of the artist's perceptions on all levels, I have no inhibitions about doing whatever I think is necessary to an image to bring out that core.  Whether it is the texture of rust or the batick of a flower field, I've no problem aesthetically or ethically manipulating an image to better portray me reactions to it.
